Tuesday I did 4 miles in a pretty fast pace. Wednesday I was planning to do speedwork, but didn't feel very well after I started running. After about 2 miles I bagged it and went back home.
We went down to Rocky Point for the weekend, and I intended to run 12 miles there. I was originally planning to wake up early on Saturday for that. But, I hadn't slept much on Thursday night, and I got to bed late on Friday night. So, I made the carefully reasoned decision to sleep on Saturday. My thinking was that it had been kind of overcast and cool, so it wouldn't be a big deal to do my running in the evening instead.
I finally left for the run at about 5:30, and realized very quickly that it was a mistake. It was unbelievably hot, and humid as well (being the beach and all), and I was drenched with sweat after about 2 minutes. I hadn't put out any water, because I was just planning on stopping at the Pemex at the 5 miles mark. So, I was feeling pretty miserable pretty quickly. It wasn't any hotter that some of the runs I did last summer, but the big difference is that I was doing those runs at a pace that's a full minute and a half slower, and doing them with a camelbak of gatorade on my back.
I bought a liter of gatorade at the pemex, and headed back. I sort of ran/walked back, and downed the whole liter of gatorade in the first mile. I was completely dripping with sweat after I got back. By the time I was done with this run, I was absolutely convinced that I was going to give up running for the summer. I'll probably change my mind later, especially if I end up doing St. George, but at least as of that day, I was done for.
The only real good news for this week is that I weighed myself upon coming back from Mexico, and I actually weighed less than when I left. That's probably the first time that's happened in a long while.
